The
fundraiser for Small Project #17 is
Janice Wilkinson of Illinois.
Janice writes:
"I wanted to sponsor a child, and the country of Guatemala is near and dear to my heart. My son was born in Guatemala, and we have been back to visit and do some volunteer work. I want to give back to the country who blessed me with my son. I sponsored Eswin because I had heard that so many more girls are sponsored than boys. Also, he looked so sweet in his picture!
Eswin is nine years old and lives in Guatemala City. He has seven siblings, Byron (16), Julio (18), Mynor (5), Veronica (14), Edgar (20), Maria (11) and Nancy (7). His mother, Marcelina, is a laundry worker. His father, Jose, is deceased. They live in a one room house with seventeen relatives.
When my son and I went back to Guatemala during summer of 2006, we were so fortunate to have CI set up a meeting between Eswin and his family, and I. We were able to meet Eswin, his mother and his grandmother. Everyone was so friendly and appreciative. I was informed by CI that their corrugated metal roof was in severe disrepair, which included a big hole where the rain came in. |
Also, there were only two beds in the home. My family and I were able to donate enough to help to fix the big hole and buy another bed frame and mattress, but there is still so much to do. Eswin's family works hard, but there is not even enough money to meet daily expenses. Any donations would be greatly appreciated!"
