Our new Small Projects Section features projects that cost $500 or under. Together with interested Children International sponsors, we aim to raise funds for things like beds, tables, chairs, supplies, and more for needy families around the world. If you have an idea for a future small project, please email Kristen at kpalana@aurashouse.com

Small Project #2: Meet Luis Marcos (9) of Guatemala City, Guatemala. |
 |
Luis's sponsor is Amalia Marshall of the UK.
Amalia writes:
"The Marcos family are a family of 10, with 5 sisters and 3 brothers from a desperately poor area of Guatemala City.
I first became the sponsor of the youngest brother Luis through Children International, and after receiving his information and family record, began to realize how desperately needy this family were.
I contacted Children International, and I was able to receive a report on their living conditions. After viewing photographs of the family and their home, the need for repairs to the house and lack of basic essential belongings became very apparent. The report stated that this family had worked really hard to provide themselves with shelter.
The older boy, Juan David at 12 yrs of age, had been working as a bricklayer to help provide for the needs of his family.

continued from left..
Even though they are desperately poor and have nothing, the 3 boys still manage to stay positive and keep smiling. However the family still have a way to go, and do not even have sufficient beds to enable them to sleep comfortably at night. The 3 growing boys aged 9, 11, 12, all share one bed. Other than this, the family have very few other possessions.
The house is in desperate need of repair. During the rainy season the very few possessions they do own get drenched, and the floor of their home, part of which is dirt, turns to mud.
I would like to be able to offer the Marcos family a little comfort, perhaps with new bunk beds for the 3 boys and urgently needed finishing of the concrete flooring to their home.
They have worked so hard to achieve what little they have at present, and it would make all the difference in the world to them."
