House Project in Honduras and Small Project in Ecuador Launch 8/31/07!

Dear Aura's House Friends and Donors,

New Main House Project Launches!
We're back and finally ready to bring you two new projects in Central America. The first is our New Main Project in Honduras for Bacilio Ramirez (10) and his family of eight living in a small, two room shack made out of mud, wood planks, and plastic bags. Bacilio's father abandoned the family a few years ago, forcing his mother to move in with her parents and other extended family members. The family faces life threatening illness and injury due to exposure and the threat of severe storms and hurricanes.

Our goal at Aura's House is to raise $5500 to build the entire family a safe and sturdy home made of brick. We're already off to a strong start as of August 31, 2007. Please consider making a small gift, even $1. We hope to reach our goal by the end of December so the family can receive the surprise of their lives in time for the holidays. Visit this project and learn more about Bacilio and his family.

New Small Project in Ecuador
Launches!
Our newest Small Project for Allison Dalgo (14) of Ecuador also launched on August 31, 2007. Her and her family are in dire need of the following items: a bed, mattress, dresser, gas stove with oven, dresser, desk, blender, and a table. We're raising $500 for Allison and are already off to a good start. Visit this project and learn more about Allison and her family.

What Else is Going On?
We're excited to be launching our two new projects with our longtime partner, Children International. Other organizations we are talking to about future projects include The UN's World Food Programme, The American University of Rome, and others. We are also still working on getting our own Non-Profit status in the year ahead.

As for our website, we are finally back up and running 100% with a new server, host, and infrastructure. Our donors list and mailing list form are now fixed, and you will start to see aesthetic and functional improvements to the site this Fall. If you have any ideas or want to help, please email us at info@aurashouse.com.

Thanks as always to all our supporters, whose enthusiasm and encouragement help keep our site going. Happy September!

Best wishes,
Kristen, Anastasia, Mike, Christina, and the Aura's House Team

Return of the Virtual Bricks

House Progress as of September 3, 2007. Our virtual house for Bacilio will build up as we get closer to our $5500 goal. A new brick is added with every $50 raised. Thanks to Maggie Fridman of New Jersey for creating our house pics.

Lift One

In 2005 Children International launched an online fundraising tool inspired by Aura's House called SponsorThon. Since then, it has now grown and evolved into the Lift One Project.

Just $22 a month will help a child get basic medical and dental care, schooling, clothing, and more.

An Update from our Recent Kenya School Project.

"It is exciting to know that in 2007 we were able to open the  doors of Form 3 at Waddington High School on the Galilee Primary School campus in Nairobi. With many thanks to our friends at Aura's House, donors have rallied together at the end of 2006 to raise $6200 for WHS desks, textbooks, and  additional lab equipment to meet the growing needs of the school.

It is so  exciting to think of the students sitting in their desks, studying from appropriate textbooks, and being able to receive an adequate science education that will serve their future goals. It's hard to imagine that just three years  ago a high school education was unheard of for these deserving young people. Thanks to everyone who donated toward these needs. "

Featured Donor: Dr. Cheri Pierson Yecke of Tallahassee, FL.

Dr. Yecke writes:

"My daughter Anastasia has always had a kind and gentle heart. Even as a child, she looked out for the less fortunate. I was not surprised, then, when she became involved with Aura's House.

The work conducted by Aura's House is aimed at the smallest possible unit of society - the family.  Outreach to families focuses on basic needs and the means to ensure self-sufficiency.  When I donate to Aura's House I know that the funds are going directly to the individuals who need help the most - not to a bureaucracy. This sort of confidence makes a world of difference to me. I know that Aura's House is a responsible steward of the donations it receives."
