Subject : Photos of family in Honduras

Dear Anastasia and Kristen,

I am happy to introduce you to Maria Rosa Simion Rojas, her little sister,
Heidy, and the rest of their family.  As you can see in the attached
photographs, the family lives in a poorly constructed house built of scrap wood
and metal -- and would benefit tremendously from the construction of a new house
for them!

There are ten people living in this home.  Three members of the family (father,
mother and an older daughter) work outside the home.  Dad is a laborer, mom
works as a housecleaner, and the oldest girl works on a factory.  The total
monthly income for all three amounts to $240.

The home is very small; it has one multi-purpose room; is constructed of wood
slats, metal roofing and has a dirt floor.  They do have electricity and there
is an outdoor latrine.

The Honduran government gave several small plots of land to poor families in
this area, and the Rojas family is working with an attorney to have the title of
the land properly registered in their name.  There is no threat of eviction.

The total cost to build this family a new home, large enough to accommodate all
of them, is approximately $5,500.

As I mentioned to you previously, the two little girls are sponsored through our
sponsorship program.  I will write to their sponsors today to let them know of
your intentions.  I, too, am hopeful that they will wish to participate in your
fundraising efforts on behalf of their two children!

Anastasia, you asked about visiting this family when you travel to Honduras in
April.  I think that's a wonderful idea -- and I will make sure that our staff
in San Pedro Sula makes the arrangements for your visit with them.  I know
they'll be thrilled to meet you -- as will Keyla!

And, you can certainly correspond with Maria and Heidy; just send your letters
to me here in Kansas City, and I'll send them to Honduras with a special note.

I hope this information helps you get started with your new website; if you need
anything else, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Thank you again -- both of you! -- for your wonderful support of our efforts and
your strong desire to change the lives of a poor family in such a positive way!

Vickie
