What's Next :

Our repeat donors, Olivia Palana, Michael Hemling, and myself will continue to contribute each month.

More and more people at William Paterson University of New Jersey will learn about this project and hopefully donate and get more involved.

We'll continue promoting the site and do all we can to raise money so that the Hernandez family can be surprised on Christmas with the news of this project. It's our goal that this house will begin being built in 2005.

House Progress Indicator
Aura's House as of Oct. 1, 2004.

Whew! We are getting there!

Thanks to all our
donors, so far we are up to $2120 as of October 1st and are only $130 away from reaching our halfway point!

September proved to be another successful month of fundraising, with over $700 being added to our previous total, beating our August numbers. We also had more unique visitors to the website than any previous month. July and August averaged around 500 unique visitors each, while September saw us grow in popularilty with over 700 unique visitors!

Aura's House is also currently featured in a new e-book about successful online fundraising by Toby Beresford of the London based Micro Aid. We are on lucky page #13 and are called "A great example of a small net savvy organization using the web to its potential."
I have also been approached to create web templates for other non-profits and fundraisers. First thing's first though. We've got a house to build for a deserving little girl and her family!

Will you help us?
Become a first time donor or even a repeat donor. It'll only take TEN people donating $10 or more to get us to close to halfway and beyond. Here's your chance to do something for someone who will never be able to repay you.

Thanks always for all your help and support.

Best wishes,
Kristen Palana

Featured Donor: William Paterson Alum- Ozzie Rodriguez of Wayne, New Jersey.

"I got involved with Aura's House directly from Kristen Palana, my former art professor at William Paterson University. As a graphic design student, Kristen approached me to create posters to promote this special cause.

I had always wanted to get involved with a charitable organization, and this was an excellent opportunity for me to both utilize my talents to raise awareness and create portfolio-quality pieces.

I hope these posters will deliver the message that everyone's involvement can make a difference. Aura's House is a great cause, and I'm proud to offer my contribution."

How YOU can help:

We sometimes get inquiries from people who want to personally get more involved with this cause. We'd love more help! Here are a few ideas to get you started:

We could use more help promoting and fundraising. Since the school year started we have less and less time to write press releases, post on message boards like craigslist.org, or on sites where people have travel forums or message boards. Contact us if you'd like to do a write up for the web or send a press release to local newspapers. We have samples you can use.

You can also send an email to family and friends you think would be interested in helping or donating. Mailing out physical letters is a good option for older folks who may want to help but don't use the internet. Again, we have samples.

Another GREAT way to help is to sign up with iGive (where your online shopping yields automatic donations to Aura's House at no cost to you) or go to Just Giving.com and follow the instructions to create a Personal Fundraising Page.  When you get to the step asking for your charity name, you'll be able to find Aura’s House in the search area.

You can help as much or as little as you want. If you are interested in volunteering your time for this great cause, please contact Kristen.
