Dear Aura's House Donors, Friends, and Supporters,
Thanks to our donors, we've had a great start to our India and Zambia projects. Many of you, after already donating to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, found an extra dollar or two to help bring 11- year old Rituparna and her Village in India $303 closer to a safe well that delivers clean, uncontaminated water for cooking, drinking, washing, and bathing. We also raised $240 for needy kids in Zambia who had previously been denied even a basic Primary School education due to lack of uniforms or supplies. Thanks to your generosity, a total of 8 kids will soon attend school, including Elizabeth Tembo (7) and Kalambulwa Chalwe (7) who are currently featured in the Zambia School project. Children International will keep us posted on the kids helped by this ongoing project (as well as those who still need help.)
It would be great if we reach our India Water Well Goal by the Holidays. We'd be improving the health of the entire Village of Khordanahala, and saving the most vulnerable villagers- babies, small children, and the elderly from painful sickness or even death that comes from inadequate access to safe water. If you'd like to help this or our Zambia School project, please make a 100% US tax deductible gift today. Every bit helps, even $1.
In other news, the Rojas Family of Honduras will soon have a safe, sturdy brick home to call their own. See current pics of their home under construction in San Pedro Sula. Also, Aura Hernandez of Guatemala from our first project has received the furniture for her new home. Check out the latest thank-you letter and pics.
And new this month, we've added Volunteer Job Positions to the site as well as Sample Letters/Emails you can use to tell friends and family about Aura's House. Best wishes from us for a Happy Autumn and thanks as always for helping make the world a better place. One person can make a difference!
Sincerely,
Kristen Palana and Anastasia Yecke

October's Featured Donor:
Christina Sidoti, New Jersey.
Christina Sidoti is a recent graduate of William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ. There she met Professor Kristen Palana who promoted Aura’s House around the Art Department. During her summer independent Study with Kristen, she maintained the Aura’s House site making banners, updating pictures, and changing donation totals while Kristen was in Tanzania.
She writes, "I believe the site is an example of how one can do more than give money if one cannot afford it. A donation can come as graphic design, web design, or organization skills. Maybe one does not feel they can spend time away from home volunteering but they can organize their own site or help with their talents."
Christina is especially interested in helping with the Zambia School Project because she feels, "It not only aids the immediate needs of the area but enables future generations to better care for their people. It is like an investment in the future. Those children being able to go to school means that they will become adults that have the tools necessary to care for future generations." |

What's Next :
We are now raising a total of $1850 for the India Well and $30 each for school supplies for kids in Zambia. Things were a bit quiet at Aura's House this past September as most people gave aid to the Victims of Hurricane Katrina (including Kristen and Ana) through large organizations like the Red Cross. Anastasia Yecke is also volunteering in Mississippi the first weekend of October to help with the Hurricane Clean-Up Effort. Aura's House sends out our collective thoughts, best wishes, and prayers to all the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. (October 12 Update: Check out her photos.)
This October we hope to continue to get our new projects in India and Zambia off the ground and help even more people who live an entire lifetime in desperate conditions. Please make a 100% US. Tax Deductible donation today or forward this newsletter to your friends. Thanks!
We're always looking for people to help out with fundraising, design, graphics, promotions, and keeping the site going. Interested? Please contact Kristen (kpalana@aurashouse.com) if you have any comments, ideas, questions, or suggestions. Volunteer Job Positions can be found here.
