Zambia's Kids Go to School! Two Families Get Beds for their Heads. $4700 raised so far for Philippines Classroom Project.
Dear Aura's House Donors, Friends, and Supporters,
This has been a busy and exciting month at Aura's House. First, we are getting ever closer to reaching our goal for the Philippines Classroom project for Christian Capin (8) and over 4,000 of his classmates in Manila. As of May 1, 2006, we have raised $4700!
Aura's House partners Mike Epler and Anastasia Yecke have started a new matching funds challenge for this project. See the article below for more details. We also have raised $517 for food, supplies, and furniture for Kenci Julissa (6) and her family from Honduras, completing and exceeding our goal! Visit this Small Project. Special thanks to donor David Michael for his generous $180 donation that put this project over the top.
In other news, we finally have the pics and details of over 20 children from Lusaka, Zambia! Not only were featured children, Elizabeth Tembo and Kalambulwa Chalwe able to finally attend school, but over 20 other kids were given tuition, uniforms, supplies, and books. See their photos. Special thanks to the 10th graders at The Out-of-Door Academy, Sarasota, FL. led by Dr. Karen J. Kriebl. They were among our most enthusiastic fundraisers and donors for this project. We hope to start up the Hosie's School Project again as soon as Children International and School Officials in Zambia come up with a lasting plan.
Also as of April, Aura's House was featured in two articles over at the Children International Website. Check them out here and here. We now also have some of our web pages translated into Spanish thanks to Venezuelan volunteer, Mariana Gil Sir. There is also a new letter from Aura and a new video clip from Kristen and Ana's visit to Guatemala and Honduras. (More coming in the weeks ahead. Check back soon.)
Finally, make sure to check out new photos from Small Project #2 for Luis Marcos and family of Guatemala and Small Project #3 for Cindy Villamor and her family in the Philippines. Both children and their families were in dire need of beds, furniture, food, and supplies. Check out the two photos below and on their respective webpages to see what they received!
Here's to another month of little good deeds adding up!
Best wishes and Happy May,
Kristen Palana and the Aura's House Team

Tour Aura's House with Tourguide, Aura Yesenia Solis Hernandez
Take a video tour of the inside of Aura's House with Aura Yesenia Solis Hernandez (12) herself. This is some footage from Kristen and Anastasia's trip to Guatemala and Honduras from March.
See more pics from Aura's House, from this trip, and read the travel journal.
Kristen apologizes in advance for the shakiness and unprofessional quality of this particular footage, as she was nursing a bad stomach and nearly passed out when Aura took her to the family's dining room. Luckily Anastasia took over the camera at this point, and despite forgetting to remove the lens cap for a few seconds, she finished the tour with almost no technical mishaps. That's right!
Stay tuned for more video footage (taken while not sick) from Guatemala and Honduras in the weeks ahead at www.aurashouse.com

May's Featured Donor

Melinda Klamer, Miami, Fl.
Melinda writes :
Hi, my name is Melinda Klamer. I have been a friend of Anastasia’s for a couple of years now, and I greatly admire the work that she does with Aura’s House.
At my 26th Birthday party in April, I requested donations for Aura’s House in light of Anastasia and Kristen’s inspiring trip to Honduras. It was especially touching and personal to read along with their travel journal. I have been sick in Central America before and definitely felt their pain!! Wow – what troopers…
I feel connected to Aura’s House because of the few things I have been involved with. In the past I have volunteered at a car wash fundraiser for Aura’s House and also attended benefits to raise funds for the organization. I can tell anyone who is thinking about donating to Aura’s House that this is an organization lead by genuine and honest people who truly have the desire to make a difference in our world. Not only do they have the desire, but they are doing something about it!!!! This is the feet and hands of the body of Christ at work.
I have seen the time and effort that Anastasia puts in to all the smallest details to intrigue and inform those of us who have so many blessings and resources to get us motivated to help those who are less fortunate. While shopping with her for birthday party gifts and favors, I have also witnessed her special touch she has for throwing quincianera parties. What a special blessing for these little girls who receive a special 15th birthday party thrown by Anastasia!

Other past volunteer activities that I have been involved in include: inner-city children’s ministries, restoring and assisting orphanages in Mexico, building homes for Indian-Americans in South Dakota, and volunteering my time with the International Rescue Committee here in Miami.
I hope that all those who are involved in Aura’s House know how special your dedication is, and I believe that your efforts are very commendable! Bravo! Keep up the good work. |
