What's
Next :
We're continuing to raise money for a Community
Well for Aura's neighbors who currently get their water from a
dirty river. We estimate it will cost between $600 and $1000 but
are still waiting for the final cost from Children
International. So far we have raised $535 for a well as of
January 3, 2005.
We
will be raising money for another needy family's home in early
Spring 2005. Children International sponsor, Anastasia Yecke of
Miami, Florida will spearhead the fundraising and promotional
effort, while we (Kristen Palana and the WPUNJ community) will
do the web and graphic design. Looking forward to it!
Please
contact Kristen if you
have any comments, questions, or suggestions.

Hi
Everyone.
We at Aura's House would like to wish you a 2005 full of health,
good luck, and success.
As we saw after the recent Tsunami of Southern Asia, many people
found themselves the victims of tragedy. One positive thing that
comes from such devastation is the outpouring of kindness people
all over the world share. If you'd like to help the homeless Tsunami
victims of Southern Asia, please make a gift to Habitat
for Humanity
today.
While it's true that we can't always help everyone in the world,
it is true that everyone can help someone. One family in Guatemala
knows this all too well.
We hope you'll enjoy the pictures of Aura and her family after
they found out the good news. Stay tuned for updates on construction.
The names of all our donors
will be framed and sent to the Hernandez Family when they are
ready to move into their new home. We'll also keep you posted
regarding the current effort to raise funds for a Community Well
for Aura's neighbors as well as a new house project that will
raise money for another needy family's home in early Spring 2005
.
Best
Wishes,
Kristen Palana

December 28,
2004. (from an email and letter recently received...)
Dear Kristen,
Our project staff in Guatemala City shared the wonderful news with Aura
and her family that they would soon be getting a new house - thanks to
your incredible support!
The family gathered together with our social worker when the news was
shared with them, and as you can see in the enclosed photographs, I think
there was a definite look of disbelief on the face of Aura's mother!
When they finally overcame the shock of this good news, Aura and her mother
expressed their joy and gratefulness and asked "God to bless my sponsor
because she is such a charitable person!"
Aura's mother promised to do whatever they can to help facilitate the
construction of the new house and will soon begin clearing the area where
the home will be built. Our staff is in the process of negotiating the
contract with the bricklayer and will soon begin purchasing the construction
materials needed. It won't be long until Aura and her family have the
home they have always dreamed about!
I hope you enjoy the letters of thanks written by Aura and her mother
that I've enclosed. I look forward to sharing additional photographs and
progress reports with you over the coming weeks and months. We deeply
appreciate everything you have done - using your uniquely creative talents!
- for the benefit of Aura and her family.
All the best to you, Kristen, and your family. May the coming New Year
bring you great happiness and many, many successes!
Sincerely,
Vickie Wiedenmann
Assistant Vice President
