Asia RD leads a back-to-back celebration in Manila
The Manila Agency capped Asia Regional Director Edwiges Vickie Medrano's visit with a special celebration on January 23, 2007. She led the turnover ceremony of a classroom built by Children International through funds raised by a website.

Website funds classroom in Caloocan City
At least 100 students of Sto. Nino Elementary School are now enjoying a classroom at par with those in private schools. Ms. Medrano officially turned over to them a classroom wholeheartedly funded by people from half a world away through the Aura' s house website. This website is being managed by CI sponsors who aim to make big changes among poor children in developing countries through special projects.

"I am more excited to go to school now. Our classroom is very beautiful. It's like a big playground! I told my mom to visit me here so I could show her our new room," said Mark Phillip Mariano, a preschooler beneficiary.

"I am happy for my students for this beautiful gift you gave. We are very lucky as not every school is given the same opportunity." shared Ms. Cecilia Lopez, preschool and Grade II adviser.

Sto. Nino Elementary School is a government-ran institution in Caloocan City, which is one of the three major project areas of CI Manila. Considering the country's present classroom backlog totaling to 18,000, the construction of this room looks like a needle in a haystack. It seems a small effort to address an overwhelming national problem. But looking into some of the lives of the children it will serve, listening to what they say, this room is surely a haven. A place to build dreams. A place to be children. ABS-CBN, one of the two top national television networks, provided an exclusive coverage of the event which will be shown in early February.
