In one month we have raised close to $1000 for Aura and her family's
new house! This was done in the middle of summer; what I like to call
"the opposite of the Season of Giving," and yet people like
you still chose to donate and do a random act of kindness.
In one month the website has gotten almost 500 unique visitors! Thanks
to my husband Michael Hemling, (who likes to call himself the unpaid
Vice President of Marketing), we are listed in most of the search engines
and are linked from other websites that share similar concerns for people
living in some of the poorest places on Earth.
Aura and her family still have no idea that people thousands of miles
away are conspiring to raise money and build them a house that they
would never be able to afford on their own. I hope that whoever breaks
the news to them in the future has a camera to record the looks on their
faces. You know me... I'll post the picture right on the site! I really
look forward to that day. Thanks again for giving Aura's House such
a promising start.

What's Next?
William Paterson University art students and
alumni such as Maggie Fridman, Josephine Kukla, Susan Aviner, Diego
Alvarenga, and Dorota Migdal among others are continuing to work
on the website and create graphic works to promote the site come
the first day of school in September.
You might be seeing a short article about Aura's House in the local
and university newspapers of New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts
this Fall.
Olivia Palana (my dear ol' Mom) has pledged to donate $100 a month
EVERY month until we reach our goal of $4500 starting in September.
Myself and my husband Michael plan to donate monthly starting in
September as well until we reach our goal.
I'll be bugging everyone I know or ever met for donations. :-) This
tactic has been successful so far. I plan to mail letters to neighbors
and friends in Englewood, New Jersey and the surrounding area where
I currently live. |
